Congratulations – Charlbury Town West Oxfordshire Wildcats

After the success of The Lionesses in the summer, Charlbury Town West Oxfordshire Wildcats Under 14 has won the Autumn League.

After a disappointing first game against a strong Oxford Blackbirds, we beat Summertown Allstars, Chinnor, Wantage and Witney Vikings.

The final game of the Autumn League was against Harwell and Hendred, who had only lost one league game in two years.  Anything but a win for us would have seen Harwell and Hendred win the league.

Within 20 minutes we were winning 3-0, and went into half-time leading 3-1.  We produced a strong defensive display in the second-half and were leading 4-2 with 10 minutes to go.  Harwell and Hendred scored with 5 minutes remaining, but we managed to see the game out to win 4-3 and win the league, which is our first trophy.

We are extremely proud of the way the team have played this Autumn.

Well done to Charlbury Town West Oxfordshire Wildcats!

Summer Football Tournament

Charlbury Town Youth FC’s Football Tournament was a day we had all been looking forward to following a couple of years of no tournaments due to the pandemic. We were delighted to welcome back c. 100 teams to join us at Nine Acres Recreation Ground for what was a spectacular day of six aside football.

We would like to thank all of the teams who entered and took part, and helped us to make it a successful football tournament.

Well done to all the teams who took part – we hoped you enjoyed the day as much as we did!

“I just wanted to congratulate everyone involved in the organisation of the football tournament on Sunday. We had such a great day. It was really slickly organised and in such a beautiful location too.”

“Thank you for tournament yesterday. Brilliantly organised and managed with a fantastic atmosphere the whole day!  Our girls loved it, helped by sneaking a win somehow, but a credit to your club. Hope you made bucket loads of cash for the future of junior footy at Charlbury!”

Football activities for the rest of the season – Under review

The CTYFC committee will be meeting on 24th February to map out the clubs plans for participation in football until the end of the season.

We will need to liaise with the OFA, WDYFL, OYFL, and the TVGL. Coaches will be contact with all parents as soon as we have received guidance and have a clear road map back to football.

Football activity still remains suspended until 29th March but we anticipate to start training and games shortly afterwards.

Further updates to follow….

Charlbury Girl League Winners

OMGFL U16 League Winners

Charlbury U16 Girls were recently awarded the OMGFL League title. After the suspension of the season the OMGFL committee met to determine who the league winners were throughout the age groups. Many formulas were discussed, many calculator buttons were pressed and the decision was to award the title to the team that had the won the highest average points per game played through the season.

With 30 points from 11 games Charlbury Girls were the clear winners, they have added the league title to the County Cup which they won in 2018 and a treble of the League Cup is still up for grabs, Covid-19 permitting.

Well done girls, thoroughly deserved!!
