Charlbury Ladies bounced back into action after a long lay off due to the Covid break to complete their debut season in the Thames Valley Counties League U18 Northern Section. The ladies remained unbeaten all season and won the league by 3 clear points from rivals Abingdon United. This now completes back to back titles after winning last years OGFL U16’s league.
With a predominately young squad of players, mainly 15 & 16 year olds we went into the season not knowing what to expect but after a few games we realised that we were going to be challenging for the title. A fine 6-0 away win at Abingdon in the late autumn sunshine was the standout game of the season which cemented our position at the top. After the lay off the ladies resumed at full speed and remained unbeaten through to the end.
We have now taken the decision to enter the full ladies league and expect to compete in the ladies 3rd division west. This will be a great challenge in stepping up to full ladies football but who knows… a 3rd title??
Charlbury Town Youth Football Club have further strengthened their girl teams with the introduction of a under 8 team to add to their already existing under 18 & under 12 teams.
After a stop start last 18 months of training the U8 girls finally got to play some competitive matches agains Witney Vikings and Kiddlington recently. The girls had a great deal of fun and gained much needed experience of playing football against opposition.
Plans are now to enter into the OGFL for next season 2021/22 in the under 9’s league.

Charlbury Town Youth u14s provided a bit of good news for the club in what has been a difficult football season for all so far in winning the WDYFL ‘A’ league title for the 2020/21 Autumn/Winter season.
With football ceased in January, the league took the view that points per game was the fairest way to conclude matters – and although it would have been nice to finish things off on the pitch in the final game – Charlbury had already beaten the second place side and the chasing teams still had to play each other so it feels fully deserved.
This means that the lads achieved their primary aim of winning back the title that they won as u12s – and made it four major trophies now as a group together in the last 3 seasons (with one or two others robbed by COVID!). From the coaches viewpoint, the best thing about the success has been the significant contribution of all members of the squad – they all hold themselves to such high standards and it is a joy to be involved.
Witney & District Youth Football League – u14 A division
The postponed final of the WDYFL took place on Sunday 6th September at Clanfield against arch rivals Ducklington.
Whenever we play Eddies team, the game is always close and yesterday was no exception going into extra time with the score at 0-0. Whilst Charlbury had the greater possession and better chances, Ducklington could have stolen it with the very last kick of extra time, with the ball just going past Charlbury’s post.
However a dominant spell, by the fitter side in the first half of extra time saw Lewis Pretorious and Billy Sweet hit two amazing goals to give Charlbury a deserved and comfortable lead.
However, although Charlbury continued to press they got caught with a long ball over the top that fell between the defence and goalkeeper leaving the Ducklington striker to tap in the ball to create a nervous 2 minutes finale.
Charlbury held on and lifted their first cup ! More to follow….

Thanks too to all that helped at our six-a-side tournament in June, with almost 100 teams taking part and raising around £3,500 for the club. The club’s very special thanks to Helen Turner for pulling everything together and for all the time spent both on the day, before and after the event. Also another great effort by all involved in Charlbury Men’s six-a-side tournament (especially Tom Griffith and Lynn Gorton), we hosted 10 teams and raised circa £800.
