No football this weekend but reflect on Under 13s own storm on way to Semi finals at beginning of February!

u13s – 1-0 vs Bampton – KO CUP QF

The u13s welcomed Bampton for a KO cup quarter final, on a blustery day at Enstone. Recent form had been good for us, winning 7 straight, but from the onset it was clear that Bampton were up for this match. The visitors controlled much of the first half, albeit creating little in the way of clear chances, and despite having less of the ball Charlbury looked dangerous on the counter with a few breakaway chances spurned.

0-0 at half time – and the second half became a very nervy affair – with both sides defences on top and neither side wanting to make the costly error. Little in the way of clear chances meant the game finished 0-0 – and extra time required.

Two key moments settled the tie. Firstly a long free kick swept into the Bampton box by Tyra caused chaos, and Lex Cocks-Hope smashed in the loose ball to give Charlbury a precious lead. Then, with 5 minutes left in the second half of ET – a fantastic save by Kerr Griffith to deny the star Bampton striker when clean through – meant the slim 1-0 lead was protected and after a tough 90 minutes Charlbury ran out winners.

Full credit to an excellent and determined Bampton side, in a game that neither side deserved to lose, but the u13s break for half term top of the A league and with a semi final to look forward to.
