Week 15 & 16 – Few fixtures in the mud sees Mcdonagh Magic for U14s

U11 Girls v Hinksey (A) – 14th December

The U11 girls played their last match of 2019 on Saturday morning at a very wet and soggy Grand Pont Park in Oxford against Hinksey Park. The rain was heavy up to kick off, making the pitch extremely difficult to play on but the girls coped well with the wet and cold conditions. The game started well and got better…! Several super moves were built out from defence that resulted in a flurry of goals…..The scorers on the day were Molly White (2), Molly J (3) and Fran (1) with just one in reply. The girls played fantastically well and deserve great credit for the way they continued to play terrific passing football with great goal scoring….! Great credit to Hinksey Park who played good football and were exceptionally team spirited. Player of the match was Eva following a strong performance in defence throughout…..Captain – Dolly

U11 Girls v Quarry Rovers -7th December

The U11 Girls last home match of the 2019 was played against a strong Quarry Rovers side.  Captain for the week was our super striker; Evie. The match was slow to start but soon warmed up and included a number of fantastic moves from the girls that led to chances being created; Molly W had a fizzing shot into the side netting, Evie had a chance cleared off the line and Fran continually ran through Rovers defence. Our defence was solid led by Matilda, Grace, Izzy and Libby. Grace made two super saves in the first half too. The match ended in a narrow 0-1 defeat with the Rovers coach agreeing a draw would be a fairer result. Great credit to Rovers who played good football and were exceptionally team spirited. Player of the match was Matilda with an exceptional first half performance, reliable at the back and strong in bringing the ball out of defence. The second match of the day – played as a 9 a side friendly was again an even match but did see Charlbury playing some super football in the first half. The match ended 3-2 with super goals from Gracie, Libby and Molly W.

U13 Charlbury 4- 0 Kingston

The u13s continued their recent good form with a comfortable 4-0 win at title chasing Kingston, despite a couple of key absences due to sickness and poor behaviour. Toby Ball’s excellent delivery at corners found Jake Willis for two smartly taken goals, either side of a classic Tyra Aitken finish following a lovely through ball from Harry Hinton, leaving Charlbury 3-0 up at half time. Toby completed the scoring himself with a long range effort midway through the second half, and a second consecutive clean sheet was very well received, with strong performances in particular from Lex Cocks-Hope and Alastair Weeks as a new centre back pairing. The u13s thus look likely to finish in 4th spot in the Autumn/Winter season A league, surrendering their title, with a couple of half time leads thrown away against rivals earlier in the season costing them dear. Success in either the Spring/Summer league, or the KO cup, now looks imperative if the coaches are to save their jobs for 2020/21……

U14 Carterton Town 1-5 Charlbury

On a very narrow pitch and very challenging weather conditions, Charlbury sought pay back for the points dropped against Carterton at home earlier this season. Very little football could be played but that that was enable Charlbury to take a 2-0 lead into half time with Alfie Mcdonagh blasting in from 4 yards. Carterton got an early goal in the second half to reduce the arrears but the game was never really in doubt with both Tom Hart and Billy Sweet doubling their tally for the game. This now ensures the boys will enter the Christmas break second in the league due with still Banbury to play before Christmas. Man of match : Freddie Fox
